Ten Relaxation Techniques to Help You Chill Out

Because stress is more than just a bad feeling, learning a few effective ways to relax could save your life.

It’s also harmful to your health in other ways. However, if you don’t have the time or desire to do things like meditate, this may not be an option for you.

Perhaps you could experiment with a couple of these basic relaxation techniques:

1. Give someone a bear hug

Giving a hug ensures that you will get one in return. As long as the embrace comes from someone who doesn’t mind touching you back, this may be really calming.

2. Interrupting routines is a good idea

Have a small chat with the man sleeping on the seat next to you, or go for a picnic on the roof. Stress may be relieved by doing anything that takes you out of your routine and forces you to think differently.

3. Relax in a long, hot bath

It helps to relax your muscles, and taking a break from more stressful tasks may also be beneficial. Some people think that taking a shower in which the water is alternately hot and cold is even more calming.

4. Try to keep an eye on your thoughts

If you can identify the stresses that are lying just under the surface (hunger, concern, a phone call you need to make), you can address them and feel calmer.

If you do this mindfulness activity a lot, it might become one of your favorite ways to relax.

5. Make an attempt to laugh

You know from your own personal experience that this helps you relax, don’t you?

Find a man who knows all the funniest jokes, or look around for anything amusing to see in front of you.

6. Relax by listening to soothing music

Keep a copy of your favorite relaxation CD on hand at the workplace, in the vehicle, or wherever you’ll be most likely to require it.

7. Step away from the room for a while

This may be quite beneficial if the items in the room or those associated with it are causing you to have stressed thoughts. Why not go out of the house for a while?

8. Take a deep breath

Take five deep breaths through your nose and see how you feel. Close your eyes and concentrate only on your breathing while doing this exercise.

You may think of it as a mini-meditation, and it’s one of the most effective short relaxation methods available.

9. Take a sip of chamomile tea

Chamomile tea has been shown to have a relaxing effect on the nerves of certain people.

Any hot tea that does not include caffeine may be calming.

10. Take a little walk

The act of walking is one of the most effective ways to relax if you have at least 10 minutes to spare.

While you’re at it, look for a scenic area to roam about in.

Most people believe that changing themselves would make them naturally calmer. However, this is not always the case.
