The Origins of Wicca Where Did The Craft Come From?

Wicca’s Origins Where Did the Craft Begin?

Wicca’s or The Craft’s origins are complicated, although traditional Wicca is founded on so-called “British Mystery Traditions,” such as the Picts, who existed before the advent of Celtic awareness, the Celts, and some Celtic Druidism.

Wicca is about 28 000 years older than Christianity.

A number of archaeological finds show that Wicca’s roots may be traced back to Paleolithic peoples who worshipped a Hunter God and a Fertility Goddess. Cave paintings from about 30,000 years ago show a man with a stag’s head and a pregnant woman in a circle with 11 other people.

Modern American Wicca has its origins in British Wicca, which was introduced to the United States in the late 1950s by English and American Gardnerian, Alexandrian, and Celtic Wicca initiates. There are several types of the Wiccan tradition. All of these civilizations are intertwined with Wicca’s heritage.

The ancient Greek Mysteries of Eleusis, the Italian Mysteries of Rome, Etruria, and the surrounding countryside, the Egyptian and Persia Mysteries prior to Islam, and the diverse Babylonian, Assyrian, and other mid-eastern Mysteries have all played a role in the history of Wicca and its beliefs and traditional practices. Wicca may be best described as a contemporary religion founded on old witchcraft practices. But keep in mind that not everyone who practices witchcraft nowadays is a Wiccan.

Wicca is a belief system as well as a way of life. Due to the acts of the medieval church, knowledge of how Wiccan forefathers lived and worshiped has been lost throughout the years. It’s a different story with modern Wiccans. They have tried to recreate Wicca’s history in order to lay the groundwork for their activities.

In ancient times, Wicca was known as “The Craft of the Wise.” This moniker was derived from the fact that the majority of Wiccans believed they connected themselves with natural powers. They also knew about plants and remedies, offered advice, and were respected in the village and community as shamanic healers and leaders. Wicca’s history suggests that Wiccans formerly had a valued position in society, which is significantly different from how they are regarded now.

The ancient Wiccans believed that man was not superior to nature, the land, or its animals. They were, instead, merely one facet of the world. The concept of sustainable development in order to preserve balance and harmony was important to the ancient Wiccan belief system. Wicca’s past is diametrically opposed to modern man’s perception of the planet.

For hundreds of years, witchcraft and witches have been wrongly branded as wicked and sinful. Where do these concepts that have been so ingrained in Wicca’s history come from? Some Wiccans think that these stories were produced by the medieval church from the 15th through the 18th century.

This was done in an attempt to convert individuals to Christianity undercover. Many legends in the history of Wicca tell of witches being persecuted for so-called bad deeds.

Another explanation regarding the development of Wicca is that when medical research grew more prevalent in society, the individuals who conducted the early investigations had little understanding of female physiology, particularly menstruation. When the church tried to portray healers as wicked heathens and put all of the power and respect in the hands of male doctors, this riddle seemed to fit in.

Many of these beliefs and falsehoods have endured until current times, giving The Craft a poor reputation. While Wicca is fundamentally witchcraft, most practitioners do not refer to it as such because of the bad connotations. There are important things to know about Wicca’s history. It is because people who practiced it were persecuted that led to its current belief in religious freedom.
