For a while, I searched for happiness in the wrong places and didn’t always follow my heart to find joy.
I once imagined myself residing in a spacious home, adorned with beautiful furnishings to complete the dreamy abode I envisioned.
I didn’t get this spacious dream home, and I’ve realized it’s not significant, nor is it my desire.
I’ve been lucky to reside in a comfortable home with all the essentials and, even more importantly, a joyful, healthy, and loving family.
Before embracing a more minimalist mindset, I used to spend a significant amount of money on material possessions.
I would justify it by telling myself I deserved it on a good day, as a way to celebrate, or because I worked hard and felt entitled to it.
On bad days, I would convince myself that shopping was necessary to lift my spirits.
Sometimes, I would shop out of sheer boredom or simply as a social activity.
Upon gathering these items of “joy,” I came to the realization that my life was not completely fulfilling and satisfying.
Eventually, I found myself feeling short-tempered, overwhelmed, and stressed out.
I felt burdened by the maintenance these possessions demanded, on top of taking care of my family.
My possessions completely consumed me, causing me to lose sight of myself amidst it all.
I began to despise the person I was turning into—someone who lacked consistent happiness and lost sight of what truly mattered.
My outlook on life shifted when my daughter entered my world in 2014.
After her arrival, I made a significant change that has greatly improved me and brought me more happiness.
Embracing gratitude and simplicity in everyday life
Grateful for the basics and content with what I possess, I’ve embraced a more minimalist lifestyle.
Furthermore, these advantages are unveiled.
1. You can fully focus on the moment.
Expressing gratitude serves as a reminder of the blessings we have in our lives, encouraging us to stay in the moment.
I used to be more focused on what I lacked and always worked towards acquiring those things.
Things took a turn when I learned to appreciate what I have, especially in the present moment.
The present moment is truly special.

By focusing on gratitude for your current blessings, you can reduce worries about what you don’t have, which in turn can enhance your self-assurance.

It feels wonderful to prioritize what’s best for myself and my family without feeling the need to seek approval from others.

Being aware that I possess the necessary items brings me a sense of calm and peace of mind.
I feel more content knowing that I only include things in my life that bring value and avoid unnecessary stress.
