Getting and staying calm is important to me, but I didn’t always act in a manner that reflected this, especially when it came to my job.

As time went on, I saw that in order to have a life free of conflict, I had to make some changes.

It may be time to dispel some misconceptions if you’re experiencing tension, overwhelm, and frustration.

These are only a few of the most significant ones that disturbed my serenity.

1. I will be pleased if I have money.

I used to think that the key to pleasure was accumulating wealth, so I worked hard to earn and amass as much as I could.

This meant that my work responsibilities were always taking precedence over the time I spent with my family and friends, and vice versa.

I was attempting to meet my family’s requirements to the best of my ability while still giving my all at work.

No matter how hard I tried, I simply couldn’t live up to my expectations in either of my positions.

Not a single part of my life was satisfying me.

At some point, I recognized that I couldn’t continue serving if my schedule was draining me.

Money can buy you nice things, but it can’t purchase happiness.

That much I’ve learned.

Nothing monetary can buy you the serenity of mind that is essential to a happy life.

While it’s true that hedonic pleasure may have its benefits, true happiness is found in embracing one’s identity and making the most of one’s time.

You may greatly improve your mental health by controlling your money.

Nowadays, I find more joy in investing in experiences that bring people together, like going on vacation with my family, attending a sports event with friends, or going to a concert with people I’m close to, than I ever did in buying expensive designer shoes.

2. Being careless is not an option.

If you beat yourself up every time you mess up, you’ll never be at peace.

To protect yourself from the hurt of self-criticism, you can even shun challenging situations and people.

Keep in mind that expanding your horizons via attempting new things not only makes life more interesting, but it also makes you happier.

Reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than defeats is crucial.

Feeling guilty about prioritizing short-term gain above long-term success is easy for me to do.

However, I was able to speed up my recovery by making the conscious decision to learn from my mistakes.

My emphasis has shifted from dwelling on my mistakes to appreciating the comments said and the lessons learned.

I choose to learn from my mistakes, let go of the past, and concentrate on improving my present rather than beating myself up over my materialistic obsessions.

My loved ones at the moment expressed their want for my company and attention.

Additionally, they expressed concern that I would put my needs on the back burner in my pursuit of doubling my income.

Thus, these things absolutely had to alter, and eventually, with deliberate effort, I was able to achieve equilibrium.

A sense of calm washes over me now that I know I am making my own choices.

I never imagined that recovering from setbacks would feel so liberating, but that’s exactly how it is.

Think about it: errors are beneficial because they teach you something and ultimately make you a better and happier person.

3. A calm state of mind is the result of avoiding unpleasant feelings.

Anger, frustration, worry, and other unpleasant feelings would frequently accompany my mental troubles.

And I did my best to resist their advances.

Sometimes I would hide them behind a false grin, go shopping excessively, or even overeat in an effort to alleviate my feelings of depression.

By whatever means necessary, I wanted to exorcise my demons.

Because, after all, that’s the anticipated course of action: seem to be happy and successful while suppressing your true emotions.

The saying goes, “What you resist persists,” according to Carl Jung.

When we stuff our feelings, they remain.

Even more so, they have us under their thumb, and we have no idea it.

Emotions are also a hallmark of the human condition.

We have become into mindless automatons if we cease to experience them.

Because you can’t accept or cope with bad feelings, avoiding them might make you feel like you’re confined in a jail.

You miss out on the chance to finally let go of those emotions and be free.

Through practicing mindfulness, meditating, and even journaling, I have discovered constructive methods to confront and manage my emotions.

The key to finding inner peace is not burying your emotions, but rather facing and overcoming them.

4. Achieving personal success is the ultimate goal.

We lose sight of the fact that no matter how far we climb the corporate ladder, it will never be enough as we sprint to the finish line.

Even more crucially, when we strive to excel in one area of our lives, we always “fall behind” in others.

I neglected important life events with my family and postponed social events with friends so I could put in more hours at the office in pursuit of financial gain.

Because of this, I stayed late in the workplace even though I knew my family was waiting for me to come home so we could spend quality time together.

I figured I could catch up later on.

Unbeknownst to me, neglecting my needs would have detrimental effects on my relationships, physical well-being, and mental health.

It was for the best that I made an attempt to strike a balance after quickly realizing what was really important to me.

The significance of maintaining a steady equilibrium is often disregarded.

Pursuing our aspirations at the expense of our relationships and ourselves guarantees that we will never be at peace.

Many individuals mistakenly believe that material success is the only path to contentment and joy.

But this couldn’t be farther from the truth.

We must distinguish between needs and wants and prioritize the former if we wish to live in peace, which includes having stable financial circumstances.

We won’t know true peace till then.

5. Reflecting on my history is essential as is planning for my future.

Absolutely not!

Only by being fully present in this very moment can we find tranquility.

My serenity comes from being fully present in the here and now.

All my urgent inquiries have their solutions here.

No amount of dwelling on previous decisions will allow me to transcend them.

I think I was able to achieve the level of success I achieved because I decided to stop worrying about how I was going to pay my bills and live the way I had in the past.

I made an effort to focus more on the here and now and the things I was doing.

You can’t let the past dictate your present if you cling to it.

Life is full of ups and downs, and everyone has felt both.

As nice as it is to look back on happy times every so then, you must release the memories that bind you or make you afraid.

However, if you dwell on the future, you’re more likely to fantasize and create scenarios that are lot worse than they really are.

Thinking about the future too much won’t help either.

Living in the now is the only certain method to achieve contentment with life’s inevitable ups and downs.

6. It’s weak of me to let my sentiments be known.

I needed to vent my feelings and get some advice since I was in a tough spot and I knew I had brought it on myself.

Plus, it’s not like anybody was paying attention.

Whenever I needed someone to talk to or a sympathetic ear, I knew I could count on my loved ones to be there.

But my quiet was strengthened by my fear of seeming weak or vulnerable.

After all, they should have been the one to lean on, not the other way around.

When we don’t know what to say, many of us feel awkward.

Particularly for those of us who came from homes that discouraged expressing our feelings, this is the case.

I felt a release after finally telling my family the truth about the struggles I was going through.

Having someone else to share my worries and frustrations with was a huge relief.

This is also within your reach.

Realizing that it’s a strength, not a weakness, to express ourselves emotionally in a healthy way is crucial.

Telling it as it is requires a lot of guts.

Peace of mind is the usual reward for bravery.

7. I have an emotional or mental need.

Once upon a time, I believed that in order to get the favor of others around me, I needed to be obviously successful.

However, that belief ultimately led to my misery.

My obsession with being validated consumed me at all times.

Actually, there’s no need to pretend to be someone else or force yourself to do something you’re not comfortable with.

Every one of us has an idealized picture of our “ideal” self that we strive to become.

The problem is that this strategy could lead us astray when we pretend to be someone we’re not.

What role does it play in promoting harmony?

The other side is that self-acceptance may be very freeing.

Finding inner peace is a natural byproduct of accepting oneself and one’s principles and constructing one’s life around those things.

Developing a sense of calm requires not only knowing what to do, but also what not to do; this process is ongoing and requires patience.

Dispelling these myths is a great first step in achieving inner calm, joy, and fulfillment.
