“You do not gain peace of mind by thinking about it or visualizing it; rather, you get peace of mind by calming down the restless mind and resting.” ~Remez Sasson

When you first open your eyes in the morning, what is the very first thing that runs through your mind?

Is it intentional, or are you just reacting with “Oh sh*t, it’s 6:00!” by default?

If that’s how you start the day, you can very much guarantee that the rest of the day will be full with worry and tension for you.

To say it’s not the most productive way to get things done would be an understatement.

When posed and answered in the appropriate manner, questions pack a significant punch.

How to Make Use of Power Questions in the Morning

Whether or not you are aware of it, when you first open your eyes in the morning, you immediately begin posing questions to yourself.

Thoughts are going through your brain as you are doing things like brushing your teeth, drinking your coffee, or eating your breakfast.

It’s possible that you’re asking yourself, “Why am I so tired?

Why didn’t I sleep earlier?

What am I going to eat?” is the question.

In most situations, these items do not contribute anything positive to your life, and as you can see, some of them even work to your detriment.

The purpose of employing questions is to actively steer the course of your day in a way that is most beneficial to you.

In light of this, allow me to provide you with some examples of questions that you may want to ask yourself first thing in the morning:

  • What should I be looking forward to the most about today?

  • What exactly is it about my life that is so flawless?

  • How can I make today the best it can possibly be?

  • What is the most favorable occurrence that might take place today?

By posing inquiries of this kind to yourself, you may begin to reorient the attention of your mind toward the accomplishment of all of the goals that you have set for yourself.

Because your brain will respond pretty literally to whatever you ask it, it is an intriguing fact to keep in mind that your questions do not need to have any foundation in reality in order for them to be answered.

If you are going to behave irrationally, you may as well have your irrationality serve as a source of great empowerment.

However, in order for this to be useful, you must use it continuously for a period of thirty days in a row.

When you do this, what will happen is that your brain will create a link, also known as a neuro-association, between the empowering states you create with your questions and being awake in the morning.

This link will be between the empowering states you create with your questions and being awake in the morning.

One Question You Should Ask Yourself First Thing in the Morning

Since I started doing this approximately two weeks ago, I’ve been asking myself the same question as soon as I open my eyes every morning: “What am I thankful for?” You’ve probably heard the advice before that you should begin each and every day with a sense of thankfulness.

This is most likely the easiest technique to really carry out the aforementioned task.

You will feel on top of the world each and every morning if you wake up and ask yourself that question after having done it for a sufficient number of consecutive days.

You will find that you attract more and more of the things that you are thankful for into your life if you begin to see your life and the world around you as being full of reasons to be grateful.

Even though we all have a lot for which to be thankful, we often allow ourselves to get preoccupied with all that is lacking in our lives.

It is my sincere hope that this will allow you to adjust your attention.

Alterations You Can Make to Your Normal Morning Routine

I want you to give some thought to switching up the routine that you follow when you first get up in the morning.

In addition to asking yourself powerful questions, I want to urge you to begin your day in a manner that is less hectic and more reflective than you have in the past.

I believe that you will discover that the effect that this will have on you, both psychologically and physically, will be one that is pretty strong.

Do not power on the computer or the television.

As a blogger, for the better part of the last year, turning on the computer has been the very first thing I’ve done when I get up in the morning.

Even if you don’t have a blog, you could have the habit of turning on your computer as soon as you get out of bed in the morning.

It is impossible for there to be any positive effects on your mental health if you immediately subject it to an overwhelming amount of information after waking up.

I strongly suggest that you take around twenty minutes to simply relax and enjoy your morning coffee or meal.

The act of turning on the television is among the sneakiest things a person can do.

You may not even be aware of the detrimental effect that the news is having on you since the influence can be so subtle.

The first thing that hits you when you wake up is probably going to be the news, which is probably going to be about everything that’s wrong with the world.

We have learned over the course of many years that the morning is often the time of day when our thoughts are the most open and receptive to new information.

Because of this, I strongly suggest that you refrain from turning on the TV if you have been doing so.

Put on some upbeat music or read something inspiring.

Music is one of my favorite things to listen to, and if it’s an option, I wake up to an alarm that really plays music.

I make an effort to locate music that are uplifting or ones that have melodies that are calming.

When you first get up in the morning is one of the greatest times to put on a self-help CD or program and listen to it.

Consider the impact that this will have on you if you continue to do it for the next month and a half.

If you wake up and immediately listen to anything motivational or uplifting, you will ultimately program that message into your mind and associate it with getting up in the morning.

Meditate.

I believe that overcoming the tendency to think is one of the aspects of meditation that presents one of the greatest challenges.

My mind seems to be going a million miles an hour, so this is not something that comes naturally to me at all, and as a result, I’m not very good at it.

Even only five to ten minutes of meditation or deep relaxation practiced first thing in the morning, when your mind is more likely to be calm and uncluttered, may have a significant impact on the rest of your day.

What is the first step in your daily routine in the morning?

Is there anything else that comes to mind that could be added to this list?
