“The most important factor in effecting change is awareness.”

~Eckhart Tolle

There are two distinct ways to go through life.

The first strategy is a more reactive one, in which you respond aggressively whenever you are confronted with difficulties in your personal or professional life.

The alternative strategy is a more proactive one in which you are aware of the patterns both inside yourself and around you and are prepared with your surfboard for whenever a significant wave arrives.

The sole distinction between the two is whether or not one is conscious.

Your awareness gives you the capacity to make conscious decisions based on a knowledge of yourself and the circumstances, to observe the effects of those decisions, and then to make new decisions based on what you’ve learned.

Because of this, awareness is a strong tool.

You are regaining control whenever you increase your awareness.

The simple process of monitoring your thoughts and actions might motivate you to take constructive action.

Big words.

How can I be so certain?

Simply by keeping track of my slumber, I was able to have a better understanding of the factors that contribute to or detract from my quality of sleep.

When I first began keeping track of what I ate, I was under the impression that calories were more important than macros.

After that, I altered the manner in which I ingested meals.

Keeping a journal has given me the opportunity to study and get insight from my internal monologue.

It opened my eyes to the fact that a lack of sleep, food, or drink is the source of the most of my rage and aggravation.

Keeping close tabs on my money made it much simpler for me to make difficult decisions about my expenditures.

These adjustments did not occur suddenly on my part.

They had to wait for days and months before the alterations truly took effect when they were aware of them.

Knowledge begins with awareness.

The acquisition of knowledge bestows power.

Having power makes it simpler to effect change.

In the lack of consciousness, you just respond to whatever is going on around you without giving it any consideration since all you have is the flow of thinking.

Your response will then be determined by the experiences and training you’ve had in the past.

You are going to grab for your go-to snack if you have ever found that eating was a way for you to cope with stress in the past.

If you have learned from previous experiences that you need to yell in order to be heard, you will find it natural to yell while you are being ignored.

You begin to think that what you are feeling is reality, when in fact, what you are experiencing is the narrative that your mind has generated as a response to the events that are taking place around you.

When you lack awareness, you mistake what is transpiring in your head for the world around you.

You are helpless because your conditioned mind controls you.

“Having awareness is all about regaining the ability to choose what you want in life rather than being constrained by what your history has done to you.”

~Deepak Chopra

The vast majority of us have no idea why we behave in a certain way, how others interpret us, or how we show ourselves to others.

And as a consequence, we find ourselves mired in destructive routines.

The following are some methods by which you may increase your awareness in order to make positive changes in your life.

Engage in Some Regular Introspection

This gives you the opportunity to take a step back and examine yourself using more in-depth questions.

In the immortal words of Ferris Bueller:

“Life goes fairly quickly.

It’s possible that you won’t see it if you don’t take the time to glance around every once in a while.

Consider the following: Why did I behave in such a manner?

Why does this make me feel like crying?

Why do I feel such strong opposition to this viewpoint?

Where did the idea that something was true originate?

If you do this, you will be able to form relationships that are more robust.

It will fortify your beliefs and provide you with the fuel to advocate for your stance in a respectful way.

It will also make you aware of the negative behaviors and cognitive patterns that you have developed through time.

For instance, the act of reflecting on my own behavior has shown me that when I haven’t had enough sleep, I have a propensity to consume foods that aren’t good for me.

When I’m in an angry mood, I have a propensity to isolate myself from other people rather than communicate with them in a level-headed manner.

Due to the fact that I am aware of this about myself, I am able to recognize bad tendencies and choose more healthy answers.

Journal

Writing in a journal is not only an excellent method for relieving stress but also a useful tool for engaging in self-reflection since it enables you to better comprehend and examine the ideas and beliefs that guide your life.

It frees up mental space in the process.

Imagine that there is a lot where your ideas can wait for you.

When you put all of your thoughts into paper, it will be as if a weight has been lifted off of your head and shoulders in the same way that removing a heavy backpack from your back makes your shoulders and back feel lighter.

You may do this once a day, once a week, or even once every two weeks if you want to vary it up.

To get started, all you need is a notebook and some writing implements.

Believe me when I say that no one is so busy that they cannot spare five minutes out of their day to write in a diary.

Conduct Personality and Psychometric Tests on Yourself

A personality test can help you get insight into the reasons behind the things you do, while a psychometric exam will assist you evaluate your skills, knowledge, talents, and qualities.

Although I am not a huge fan of them, there are a ton of free exams that can be found on the internet.

You may find that you agree or disagree with the findings, but regardless of your position, they will provide you with some food for thought.

Because they are all based on some kind of questionnaire that you complete, I would suggest taking more than one of them so that you may have a more comprehensive view of your capabilities, limitations, and behavior patterns.

The Very First Thing You Need to Attempt to Do If You Seriously Want to Make a Change in Your Life

Ask For Comments

One should be aware that there is a catch to this.

You must be able to receive criticism from others without taking it personally or becoming defensive, else you will not be able to improve.

If you have the ability to probe them with in-depth inquiries to learn more, that would be ideal.

You have the option of sending the question in the form of an email if you want to avoid having others point out your inadequacies and blunders to your face.

When you give yourself some time to process what other people have written before answering, you reduce the likelihood that you will react defensively.

Get Out of Your Rut and Challenge Yourself

After you have gained an understanding of your capabilities, the next stage is to test those limits and confront your phobias.

When I was younger, I detested giving presentations or speeches in front of big groups of people.

There was nothing that made me sweat more than that!

Since I was aware of the situation, I made the decision to take action by becoming a member of a student group at my institution.

One of my responsibilities there was to give presentations about the organization in various classrooms in an attempt to increase membership.

It wasn’t simple, but after a year of hard work, I completely stopped sweating!

For you, this could mean drawing a line in the sand with someone after realizing that you have a pattern of allowing others to take advantage of you, or it could mean putting in an application for a job you’ve been interested in after realizing that you typically hold yourself back out of fears that you aren’t good enough.

When you not only become aware of what you are doing and why you are doing it, but also make the deliberate decision to alter what you are doing, this is when awareness begins to transform your life.

Being conscious makes one more powerful.

You will be able to recover from setbacks more quickly if you are aware of your surroundings.

You are aware of your weaknesses and the ways in which you might improve.

You have experienced the cycle often enough that you are now aware of what causes you to experience them and how you may recover from them.

For instance, when I am feeling down and depressed, I know that if I go for a sleep or get some exercise, I will be able to pull myself out of it.

It helps me break free of the negative juju.

Having awareness makes it possible for you to sympathize with other individuals.

Because you have had a similar experience, you are able to empathize with the other person and understand the signals that they are going through.

It is far simpler to put oneself in the position of the other person than than to pass judgment on them.

In point of fact, when some time has passed, it will become second nature.

Because of your heightened awareness, your dexterity will improve.

You have the ability to insert yourself into any circumstance and remove yourself from it at any time, and you can adjust to changing circumstances and make course corrections with much less warning.

That is to say, you are able to move rapidly, think quickly, and act quickly.

The path to self-awareness takes you in the direction of your blind spots as well.

It brings to light what was previously hidden and reveals it to you, so even if you are unable to act on the information right now, at least you are aware of it.

When I reflect on my life, I realize that I have been fortunate with numerous opportunities to experience moments of consciousness in which I discovered something, either on my own or because someone in my inner circle of trusted friends saw it.

When you look back, you will almost certainly be able to pinpoint the exact periods in time when your change initially started because of the awareness that brought it to light.

I am quite certain of this.

As soon as there is even a hint of awareness, the cogs of transformation start turning.
