As you become more quiet, you will be able to hear more.

-Rumi

During the course of a typical day, the majority of us are seldom able to stop moving and put an end to the noise.

We are working, we are moving, we are driving, we are watching things, we are listening to things on our headphones, and we are filling the tiny gaps by checking our phones.

This is the case for the majority of us.

It is a very human instinct to want to be active and productive and to fill every gap with something that is either helpful or amusing.

This is one of the reasons why this is not incorrect.

What if, however, we were able to allow ourselves to become quiet?

There is a miraculous occurrence that takes place: we begin to uncover a new way of being alive, and a more profound experience begins to disclose itself to us.

Do you understand what it means to become quiet?

I don’t have a straightforward response to this question, but here are some of the things that I’ve been learning:

  • You should stop moving about and doing a lot of things, as well as performing a lot of activities on your computer or phone, and instead simply sit or come to some type of stillness or slowness.

This is what it means to slow down physically for at least a few minutes.

  • Although meditating is certainly one technique to do this, it does not imply that you are required to do so.

You may, as an alternative, go for a peaceful stroll in the woods, relax and watch the sun go down, or lay in a hammock and just enjoy the sensation of the air.

  • Take a break from technology, even if it’s only for one or two minutes.

    Take a break.

It is also important to let go of listening and reading.

You should either remain motionless or walk gently without making any effort to do anything or eat anything.

  • It indicates that you have given up attempts to be productive or amused.

It is not necessary for you to do anything, demonstrate something, or feel enthusiastic.

Even if it’s only for a few minutes, you are able to let go of these sorts of compulsions.

  • It indicates that you do not have to feel a certain way or that you should avoid feeling a particular way.

Many individuals, for instance, have the desire to experience sensations of productivity, competence, and entertainment; so, we do all in our power to get these types of emotions.

The fact that we do all in our power to prevent feeling bored, lonely, unhappy, or powerless is another reason why we do everything we can to avoid these sensations.

When we have achieved silence, we are able to give ourselves permission to feel whatever it is that we feel, just letting it be our experience.

Because of this, we are able to let life be exactly as it is, and we are also able to allow ourselves to be exactly as we are, regardless of how we are feeling.

In a place where you can earn a lot of money or achieve a large number of followers or viewers, stillness and calm are not the most attractive qualities about it.

In most cases, we are unaware that we are yearning for silence.

On the other hand, in my experience, the state of silence is where one might have the most profound experience of existence.
