Let me tell you about Baku.
It’s one of those cities that surprises you in all the best ways.
If you’re a digital nomad like me, always searching for the next city that offers the perfect balance of work-life fun, Baku is calling our name.
I didn’t expect to fall in love with it, but here we are.
So, grab your laptop, a good pair of walking shoes, and let’s dive into why Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, is becoming a hidden gem for digital nomads like us.
First Impressions: A City of Contrasts
From the moment I stepped foot in Baku, I was hooked.
It’s this incredible mix of old-world charm and futuristic skyscrapers that makes it stand out from so many other cities.
One minute, you’re walking through the Old City, surrounded by ancient stone walls and traditional markets, and the next, you’re gazing up at the iconic Flame Towers that dominate the skyline.
This city has personality, and as digital nomads, that’s something we can appreciate.
I love how it balances modern conveniences with a deep sense of history.
It’s like Baku is giving us the best of both worlds, and it’s all laid out for us to explore.
Affordable Living: Baku Won’t Break the Bank
Let’s get real for a second—we’re always on the lookout for cities that won’t have us blowing through our budgets, right?
Well, Baku’s got our back.
Compared to other European or even Middle Eastern cities, Baku is super affordable.
We can live comfortably without constantly worrying about money.
Renting an apartment in the city center won’t have us selling our souls.
You can find a cozy one-bedroom for around $400-$600 a month, and if you’re willing to live a little further from the center, prices drop even more.
Plus, utilities, groceries, and dining out?
Super budget-friendly!
I’ve had some of the most delicious meals for under $10, and trust me, the food here is next level (but more on that later!).
Wi-Fi Woes? Not in Baku
I know what you’re thinking—what’s the internet like?
It’s a dealbreaker for us digital nomads.
I’m happy to report that the Wi-Fi situation in Baku is solid.
Most coworking spaces and cafes offer reliable and fast connections, so we won’t have to deal with those frustrating loading screens when we’re on a video call or uploading our latest project.
If we’re staying in an Airbnb or rental, we’ll likely have access to fast internet there as well.
And if we’re the type who likes to work outdoors (who doesn’t love a bit of fresh air?), there are plenty of public spaces with Wi-Fi where we can set up shop.
Coworking Spaces: Productivity Meets Inspiration
When it’s time to buckle down and get some serious work done, Baku’s got plenty of options for us.
The coworking scene here is growing, and there are a few spaces that really stand out.
One of my favorites is SUP.VC, a hip and trendy space in the heart of Baku.
It’s a startup incubator that also offers flexible coworking options for freelancers and nomads like us.
The vibe here is energetic, and it’s a great place to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, creatives, and techies.

The best part?
They often host networking events and workshops, so we can learn new skills and meet like-minded folks.
Another great spot is Work Central, which has a more laid-back atmosphere.
It’s perfect for days when you just need a quiet place to focus and power through tasks.
They offer day passes, so if we’re only in Baku for a short stay, we can still enjoy the space without any long-term commitment.
Baku’s Café Culture: Cozy Corners to Get Stuff Done
Now, let’s talk about one of my favorite things: café hopping!
Sometimes, coworking spaces are great, but other times, I just want to sip on a strong coffee and get into the flow at a cozy café.
Luckily, Baku has no shortage of cool spots where we can set up our laptops and work for hours.
Coffee Moffie is a cute little café with great coffee, comfy chairs, and plenty of outlets.
It’s one of those spots where the staff knows you by name after a few visits, and it just feels like home.
I’ve spent entire afternoons here, working away while enjoying a steady stream of caffeine.
Then there’s ETUD Café, which has a more artsy vibe.
It’s got quirky décor, and it’s a fantastic place to grab a quiet corner and get lost in your work.
Plus, the pastries are divine, so be warned—you might end up staying longer than planned just to try everything on the menu.
Exploring the City: Baku’s Best Kept Secrets
Okay, we’ve talked about work.
Now let’s get to the fun part—exploring Baku!
One of the best things about being a digital nomad is that when the workday ends, the adventure begins.
And Baku is full of surprises.
First up, The Old City (Icherisheher).
It’s like stepping into a different world, with narrow winding streets, ancient architecture, and hidden courtyards.
We can spend hours wandering around, stumbling upon little shops, art galleries, and museums.
It’s one of those places that reminds you how old and rich in history this region is.
If we’re in the mood for something a bit more modern, Baku Boulevard is a stunning promenade along the Caspian Sea.
It’s the perfect place for an evening stroll, and there are plenty of cafés and bars where we can sit and enjoy the view.
I love walking here at sunset—it’s so peaceful, and the city lights reflecting off the water are just magical.
Weekend Getaways: Escaping the City
Let’s be real—sometimes we need to escape the city and recharge.
Baku is perfectly located for some epic weekend trips, and I’ve got a few suggestions for us.
If you’re into nature and hiking, Gobustan National Park is a must.
It’s about an hour’s drive from Baku, and the landscape is otherworldly.
Think ancient rock carvings, mud volcanoes, and wide open spaces.
We can hike around the park, take in the views, and feel like we’ve stepped onto another planet.
For a more relaxing getaway, the Absheron Peninsula has some beautiful beaches where we can kick back and relax.
There are plenty of beach resorts and guesthouses where we can stay for the weekend, and it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a busy workweek.
Baku’s Digital Nomad Community: Meeting Our Tribe
One of the things I love most about being a digital nomad is meeting new people.
There’s something special about connecting with others who understand the lifestyle—the freedom, the challenges, and the excitement of constantly discovering new places.
And Baku’s digital nomad community?
It’s growing!
There are plenty of ways to meet other remote workers and expats here.
The Baku Digital Nomads Meetup is a great starting point.
It’s a super friendly group, and they organize regular events where we can hang out, share tips, and maybe even find new collaborations.
Another great resource is the Baku Expats Facebook group.
It’s filled with locals and expats who are more than happy to offer advice, recommendations, and even meet up for coffee or a drink.
It’s one of those communities where you’ll feel welcome right away.
Food Glorious Food: A Taste of Baku
I’m a big foodie, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll fall in love with Baku’s food scene.
The cuisine here is a delicious blend of Middle Eastern, Asian, and Mediterranean influences, and there’s no shortage of amazing dishes to try.
We have to start with plov, a traditional rice dish that’s rich, flavorful, and oh-so-comforting.
Every region in Azerbaijan has its own twist on plov, and I swear, it gets better every time I try it.
Pair it with some lavash (flatbread) and a bowl of dovga (yogurt soup), and you’re in for a treat.
If we’re in the mood for street food, we can’t miss qutab.
These savory stuffed pancakes are filled with a variety of ingredients—think minced meat, spinach, or cheese—and they’re super cheap, making them the perfect snack while exploring the city.
And don’t even get me started on the tea culture!
Azerbaijanis take their tea seriously, and there’s nothing like sitting down for a traditional tea ceremony, complete with fresh fruit, pastries, and jam.
It’s the perfect way to relax after a long day of work (or exploring).
Conclusion: Why Baku Is the Perfect Digital Nomad Destination
So, what do you think?
Baku has it all—the history, the culture, the food, and the growing digital nomad community.
It’s affordable, charming, and full of surprises.
Whether we’re working from a cozy café or exploring the ancient streets of the Old City, Baku offers the perfect blend of productivity and adventure.
I never expected to fall in love with this city, but now I can’t imagine not having Baku on my digital nomad journey.
So, pack your bags, bring your laptop, and let’s make Baku our next great adventure!
Trust me, we’re going to love it here.
