If you’re like me, always on the lookout for your next digital nomad adventure, you might not have considered Yerevan, Armenia.

But let me tell you, once I arrived here, I was completely smitten!

Yerevan is one of those places that somehow flies under the radar for many nomads, yet it has everything we could ever want in a remote working haven.

It’s got the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern convenience, an incredibly affordable cost of living, and a thriving (though still relatively untapped) expat and nomad scene.

So, if you’re curious about what life in Yerevan is like for digital nomads, buckle up—we’re about to take a deep dive into this cozy, colorful, and super-friendly city in the heart of Armenia!

The Warm Welcome of Yerevan

The first thing that struck me about Yerevan was how welcoming and friendly the people are.

I mean, we’ve all traveled to places where you feel like a tourist, but here, from the moment I arrived, it felt like the city wanted to give me a big hug!

Everyone’s warm, curious, and genuinely helpful.

You’ll find people ready to point you in the right direction, offer you advice, or even share a cup of coffee with you—just because.

And for us digital nomads, finding a place that feels like home is so important.

Yerevan has this wonderful way of mixing tradition and modernity.

Picture cobblestone streets with Soviet-era architecture, while trendy cafes and coworking spaces pop up on every corner.

It’s a perfect balance that makes you feel like you’re living in a city with deep historical roots while enjoying all the perks of modern life.

Why Yerevan Should Be on Our Digital Nomad Radar

So, why should we consider Yerevan as our next digital nomad destination?

Well, for one thing, Armenia is incredibly welcoming to foreigners.

The visa policy is super relaxed; in fact, we can stay for up to a year without a visa!

That’s practically unheard of.

Imagine how much stress that saves us, not having to worry about visa runs or renewals every few months.

Plus, the cost of living here is refreshingly low.

We’ve all heard the stories of nomads flocking to Bali or Chiang Mai for affordability, but Yerevan offers similar perks without the crowds.

Rent is cheap, food is incredibly affordable, and transportation costs next to nothing.

We can live comfortably without breaking the bank, which leaves more money in our pockets for weekend adventures, eating out, or indulging in Armenian wine (and trust me, you’ll want to try the wine!).

Setting Up Our Work Life in Yerevan

One of the first things on our to-do list when we land in a new city is finding a good workspace.

Luckily, Yerevan has no shortage of places where we can crack open our laptops and get to work.

Whether you prefer coworking spaces, cozy cafes, or a little of both, this city has you covered.

Let’s start with coworking spaces, which have been popping up all over the city in recent years. LOFT is one of my personal favorites.

It’s a bright, open space with a laid-back vibe, perfect for when we need to buckle down and focus.

They offer all the usual amenities—fast Wi-Fi, comfy seating, and plenty of power outlets—but what really makes LOFT stand out is its community.

They regularly host events and meetups, so it’s a great spot to connect with other nomads, freelancers, and locals.

Another great option is Impact Hub Yerevan, which is part of the global Impact Hub network.

If you’re into social entrepreneurship or working on a project with a purpose, this is definitely the place to be.

You’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are not only working remotely but also striving to make a difference.

But, let’s be real: sometimes we just want to work from a café, don’t we?

Yerevan has plenty of cafes with excellent Wi-Fi and cozy atmospheres. The Green Bean is one of my favorite spots to work from.

It’s a trendy little café with great coffee, delicious snacks, and a super-friendly staff.

I can easily spend an entire afternoon there, alternating between work and people-watching. InVino is another great spot if you want a glass of wine with your remote work day (because why not?).

The Armenian Coffee Culture (and How It Powers Us Through the Day)

Speaking of coffee, let’s talk about Armenian coffee culture for a second.

It’s a huge part of daily life here, and honestly, I’m all for it.

Armenians take their coffee seriously, and whether we’re working from a café or having a leisurely morning at home, it’s hard not to get swept up in the ritual of it.

The local coffee, often served in small, strong cups, is rich and flavorful—perfect for powering through those long workdays.

But coffee here isn’t just about caffeine; it’s about community.

Locals love to sit and chat over a cup, and it’s not unusual for someone to strike up a conversation with us while we’re sipping our brew.

As digital nomads, it’s so nice to have these moments of connection with locals, especially when we spend a lot of time staring at our laptops.

Exploring Yerevan Beyond the Workday

Of course, being a digital nomad isn’t just about finding great places to work—it’s about exploring and experiencing the culture of the city we’re in.

And Yerevan has no shortage of things to do and see once we close the laptop for the day.

For a bit of history, we can’t miss Republic Square.

This is the beating heart of Yerevan, where we can admire the gorgeous pink tuff buildings, people-watch, and maybe even catch the famous dancing fountains in the evening.

If we’re in the mood for some culture, the Armenian Genocide Museum and Memorial is a must-visit.

It’s a sobering experience, but an important part of understanding the country’s history.

And then there’s the food!

Oh my goodness, the food in Armenia is incredible.

Let’s start with lavash, the traditional Armenian flatbread that’s baked in underground ovens.

It’s served with everything, and once you try it, you’ll understand why. Khorovats, or Armenian barbecue, is another local favorite.

Picture juicy, perfectly grilled meat served with fresh herbs and vegetables—it’s the kind of meal that will keep us coming back for more.

Let’s not forget the wine, either.

Armenia is one of the world’s oldest wine-producing regions, and we can taste some of the best wines in Yerevan’s many wine bars. Wine Republic is a cozy little spot where we can sample local vintages and meet fellow wine lovers.

After a glass or two, we might even feel inspired to take a weekend trip to the Areni Wine Region, just a few hours outside of the city.

Weekend Getaways from Yerevan

One of the best parts of being based in Yerevan is that we’re so close to some incredible day trips and weekend getaways.

After a productive week, it’s nice to escape the city for a bit and get a taste of Armenia’s stunning natural landscapes.

Lake Sevan is a popular spot for both locals and visitors alike.

Just an hour’s drive from Yerevan, it’s one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world.

We can spend the day lounging on the shores, swimming in the cool waters, or exploring the ancient Sevanavank Monastery that overlooks the lake.

If we’re in the mood for a bit more adventure, we can hike Mount Aragats, Armenia’s highest peak.

The views from the summit are absolutely breathtaking, and it’s a great way to clear our heads after a busy week.

And then there’s Dilijan National Park, often called the “Switzerland of Armenia,” where we can hike through lush forests and visit charming villages like Old Dilijan.

A Growing Digital Nomad Community

One of the best things about being a digital nomad in Yerevan is that while the community is still relatively small, it’s growing fast.

There’s a sense of excitement here, as more and more remote workers are discovering what this city has to offer.

And because the community is smaller than in places like Bali or Mexico City, it’s easier to make meaningful connections with fellow nomads and locals.

There are a few Facebook groups and meetups dedicated to digital nomads and expats in Yerevan, so it’s easy to plug into the community.

Whether we’re looking for business opportunities, creative collaborations, or just some new friends to explore the city with, there’s always something happening.

Wrapping It Up

So, if you’re a digital nomad looking for a fresh, off-the-beaten-path destination that offers a mix of history, culture, affordability, and a warm welcome, Yerevan might just be your next stop.

It’s a city where we can enjoy a high quality of life without burning through our savings, find plenty of inspiring places to work, and dive into a rich and fascinating culture.

Every day here feels like an adventure, and with each passing week, Yerevan is becoming more and more like home.
