14 Daily Practices That Will Make You Happier If You Start Them Today

The advice that “Be with someone who makes you happy” is the greatest untruth that we’ve ever given.

The reality is that happiness is an internal state that one cultivates for themselves.

Spend time with someone who enriches the experience. ” ~Unknown

That should be our collective goal, shouldn’t it?

I am referring to joy here.

When I was younger, I had the misconception that my happiness was dependent on my surroundings.

If I felt like I was making progress in the areas of my life that mattered to me the most—my work, my social life, my relationships, etc.—then I felt content.

When things were not going as planned, as they often did not in one area or another, I experienced feelings of frustration, anger, and defeat.

In later years, I came to understand that pleasure does not depend on situations or circumstances alone.

It is a talent that must be learnt and cultivated, but first and foremost, it is something that comes from the inside.

If you want to have the greatest life possible, you have to accept the fact that happiness is not something that occurs to you but rather something that happens because of you.

That does not imply that if you are a good person and accomplish the things that are expected of you that you will always feel joyful.

Nobody experiences unending joy all the time.

Simply said, your choices have an effect on how you feel, and if you make healthy choices, you should expect to feel happy a greater percentage of the time than you feel bad.

I have compiled a list of fourteen behaviors that you can start doing right now in order to improve the quality of your life and make it happier.

Read them, think about them, and allow yourself to be influenced by them.

Make use of this list to get started on developing habits that will help you grow happiness regardless of the circumstances you find yourself in.

1. Try to see the bright side of things.

It is often stated that there is a bright side to every cloud.

Even though it might be challenging to discover them at times, in my experience they are always there.

When one of my close friends died away a few years ago, I found it quite difficult to look for the positive in the situation.

Simply put, life seemed to be both cruel and unjust.

After a few months, I came to the conclusion that the best way to deal with all of the frustration, anger, and grief was to make some significant changes in my life.

As a result, I decided to resign my work and spend the next year traveling.

Because of what happened to her, I realized that life might be cut short at any moment, and I resolved to make the most of the time I had left.

That was the positive aspect for me in the situation.

2. It is up to you to water the lawn.

In this day and age, it is quite simple to compare oneself to another.

We are at risk of falling into the trap of comparison every time we turn on the television, get into social media, or even have a discussion with another person.

This is not the path that leads to a happy existence.

We do this by paying attention to the needs of our own lawn rather than those of our neighbors.

Therefore, it is important to appreciate what other people have and to draw motivation from it to get to where you want to be.

Maintain your focus on the path you’ve chosen and construct, produce, and cultivate the things you desire more of.

3. Take the phone somewhere else and get it out of the bedroom.

The screen of a person’s smartphone is the last thing that many people look at before going to sleep.

It is also likely the first thing they notice when they open their eyes in the morning. (I must confess that I am just as responsible for this as anybody else is.)

If you start your day by looking at your phone, other individuals, apps, and email alerts will be able to influence how you feel.

Instead of determining what you want to concentrate on first thing in the morning, you start the day by being reactive.

Find a way to wake up that isn’t dependent on your phone (or at least put it on airplane mode).

Then, develop a speedy routine for before bed and first thing in the morning that lifts your spirits.

To refocus my attention, I often devote a few minutes to either meditating, practicing gratitude, or imagining something positive.

4. Create a list of reminders on your phone that will make you feel wonderful.

Oh, you really should get started on this as soon as possible.

You should go into the calendar on your phone and add one or two reminders for yourself to check on a daily basis.

Every day at nine in the morning, the notification “I’m enough” pops up on my phone to serve as a gentle reminder that whatever the challenges I face and despite what other people may think or say, I am sufficient.

At one o’clock in the afternoon, a further confirmation appears, stating, “I always receive the best because I deserve it.” This one never fails to put a smile on my face because it reminds me how valuable I am and drives me to contemplate the ways in which the situations I am now dealing with may potentially be working out for the best.

Set up at least one daily reminder that will make you feel wonderful and you will be doing your future self a favor.

If necessary, you will be able to shift directions more easily during the day.

5. Take a stroll outside in the fresh air.

I just lately became aware of the need of maintaining a connection with the natural world.

You may re-establish a connection with yourself and your surroundings here.

An interesting fact is that the natural frequency pulse of the earth is estimated to be 7.83 hertz on average (the so-called Schumann resonance).

It is speculated that this frequency, 7.83 hertz, is also the typical alpha frequency of the brain.

When we are in the alpha state, we feel peaceful and relaxed at the same time.

That’s pretty spectacular, isn’t it?

Therefore, make it a point to stroll in natural settings on a regular basis so that you may tune yourself into a happier and more at-ease version of yourself.

6. Accept complete and total responsibility.

This completely changes the game for me every time.

I often try to dodge responsibility in the beginning (after all, it is much simpler to point the finger, criticize, or make excuses, right?).

However, if you do not initially accept full responsibility for a circumstance, there is little you can do to alter it.

Consider all of the aspects of your life in which you do not feel completely content (your finances, health, career, love, social life, etc.).

The next step is to make the decision to assume complete responsibility for effecting the change.

Accepting responsibility for the aspects of the issue that are within your purview is the only way to affect positive change, even if it is the case that another party is to blame for the predicament.

7. Put an end to your grousing.

Complaining is a breeze, that’s for sure.
To examine what isn’t functioning or what other people are doing incorrectly, then to criticize and condemn those actions.

However, this does not fix any of the issues.

Modify something if you find that you don’t like the way it is.

Your only recourse, in the event that you are unable to affect a change in the situation itself, is to alter the way in which you think about it.

The next time you feel like griping about anything, try instead to focus on what you have to be thankful for in that circumstance.

For instance, if a bus driver is impolite to you on the way to work, you have the option of choosing to concentrate on the fact that you are able to take the bus to work and expressing gratitude for this privilege.

8. Project an air of self-assurance via your body language.

Our bodies are a mirror for our emotions.

You may be sure that your body is reflecting your apprehensive and anxious state if you are experiencing such emotions.

You can flit your attention from one place to another, talk softly, or retain a posture that conveys uneasiness.

The fact that this mirroring also occurs in the other direction is a really promising development.

Therefore, you should start talking to your mind by using your body.

Maintain a posture that is tall and straight, look the other person directly in the eye, and then speak out.

Through the use of your body, communicate to your mind that you feel secure, valued, and at ease in your current location.

9. Invest your time on things that really matter.

If we want to have a happy life, we need to make sure that our lives are full with joyful moments.

This involves spending time on things and with people that matter, such as those activities and those individuals.

What is it that you really like doing?

What gives you the most pleasure and contentment in life?

Who are some of the folks who make you feel the most comfortable?

Make it a habit to schedule time each day for the activities that offer you the most pleasure.

10. Reduce the amount of time you spend on social media.

Oh, social media!

Simply by picking up our phones, we are able to enter the worlds of hundreds upon thousands of other individuals.

The potential benefits of using social media are many.

It has the potential to invigorate us, link us with individuals all over the globe, and enable us to share meaningful experiences.

However, this may also result in emotions of deficiency, inadequacy, and being left out.

Be aware of how you’re feeling before you go onto any social media accounts.

Ask yourself: Am I now in a position where I can make use of it to my advantage?

Or am I in a situation where it has the potential to adversely trigger me?

In a nutshell, make sure that you, and not social media, are in charge of your experience, rather than the other way around.

11. Give yourself some breathing room during the day.

It is so simple to let oneself get consumed by the craziness that is life. to concentrate on improving one’s effectiveness, productivity, and overall level of output.

However, failing to make time for yourself throughout the day will not only cause you to feel a feeling of urgency and stress, but it will also impede your capacity to ponder, tap into your intuition, and produce new ideas.

Therefore, if it is at all feasible, you should be strategic about how you organize your day.

Allow yourself more time than is really necessary to do a job.

Make it such that it takes an hour and a half rather than just an hour.

For me, slowing down as I work has led to improved clarity, a higher level of enjoyment, and, to my pleasant surprise, increased productivity.

12. Become an expert at moving between different points of view.

This is the one thing I always come back to!

When I’m feeling down about anything, I remind myself that there’s always another, more positive viewpoint that might be taken.

For instance, if I am having trouble falling asleep, I have the option of either focusing on the fact that I am going to lose sleep (oh, the horror!) or on the fact that I can get through the night with less sleep and that it is not a huge concern for me. (And you’re right, that’s the point at which I doze off most of the time.)

In a nutshell, look at every difficult circumstance and make an effort to find a viewpoint that makes you feel better.

Have you, for instance, been in a disagreement with another person?

As a consequence of this, the two of you could understand one another better the next time you meet.

You should do all in your power to discover the lessons, opportunities, and advantages that may be gained from each challenging circumstance.

13. The act of enabling another person to assist you is a wonderful gift to give.

When was the last time you turned to another person for assistance?

We have a propensity to think that we are under constant pressure to be brave and self-reliant.

But the fact of the matter is that humans are not hardwired for autonomy; rather, we are hardwired for cooperation.

In general, individuals like lending a helping hand to others around them.

Why not offer someone the gift of helping you out by accepting their assistance?

In order to proceed, you should ask for their opinion, advice, or assistance.

Not only will this provide value for the two of you, but the act of assisting one another will also bring you closer together.

14. Transform the tension into clarity.

Every day, life presents us with a variety of contrasting and challenging circumstances to navigate.

The good news is as follows: Your past mistakes might provide invaluable insights into your future goals.

If your work schedule is very severe and regimented, it may be a sign that you might benefit from greater flexibility.

If you’re currently participating in an exercise regimen that doesn’t excite you or makes you feel overwhelmed, it may be time to look for one that does.

Contrasts let us see what it is that we dislike.

It is your responsibility to first recognize the distasteful sentiment and then to look the other way.

Ask yourself, “Instead of what do I want, what do I want?” What steps should I take to make it a reality?

Take Baby Steps Towards a Happier Life Each and Every Day

When it comes to making adjustments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all that has to be done.

Therefore, if you want to improve your chances of succeeding, put one of the principles I listed above into action.

Pick the one that gets you the most pumped up, and then, after you’ve mastered that one, go on to the next step.

Don’t put your joy in the hands of chance or the things that happen to you outside of your control.

Instead, accept responsibility for your own happiness and work on improving it from the inside out.

To make our world a better place, all you need to do is take baby steps toward cultivating happy habits, and you’ll be helping out immensely.
